Dr Miriam boileau
Veterinarian & OWNER
Miriam was born in North Bay where she grew up until going to University. She was always interested in animals and would bring home any injured or sick wildlife she came across, at times to her parents’ dismay. She graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 2001 and went back north to practice in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, where she worked in a mixed animal practice. A few cow C-sections and displaced stomach surgeries later, she moved to Ottawa in 2003 where she has since been in small animal practice.
Her main interest is eyes of cats and dogs and senior pet health and wellness.
She and her husband seem to be well tolerated by the 2 rescue cats who currently share the house with them.
Miriam is bilingual, fluent in French and English.

DR TAMARA RICHARDS
VETERINARIAN & OWNER
Tamara graduated form the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 2003. She is native to Ottawa, but after veterinary school she practiced small animal medicine in downtown Toronto for a number of years before coming back to Ottawa to stay.
Tamara grew up with a wide array of pets – dogs, cats, birds, pocket pets and fish. She always knew she loved animals but did not realize that veterinary medicine was her main passion until she was doing her undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Ottawa. Currently, she has two cats – Sammy and Sally and a super smart Collie named Evee. Her main interests in the veterinary field include internal medicine, surgery, and pain management.
Outside of work, Tamara enjoys yoga, biking and spending time with her son and husband.

DR PENNY WAITE
VETERINARIAN & OWNER
Penny graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 2011. She was born and raised in Muskoka, but has practiced Veterinary medicine in Mississauga, Muskoka and Ottawa.
Penny has always had an affinity and love for all animals, but grew up mainly with dogs, cats, fish and hamsters. She realized that she belonged in veterinary medicine the first time she walked into an animal hospital and her passion for veterinary medicine grew. Currently, her adopted pets include: a turtle named Honu, and 2 cats: June Bug and Chickpea. Her main interests in the veterinary field include dentistry, senior pet medicine, pain management, surgery and education.
In Penny’s spare time she enjoys hiking, biking, knitting, gardening, reading, spending as much time as possible in nature and around water, as well as spending time with her fuzzy children and husband.

JESSIE SMART
HOSPITAL MANAGER
Jessie has worked in the Veterinary field for over 12 years, graduating from the Algonquin Veterinary Assistant Program in 2004, and having worked at multiple Veterinary Clinics in various capacities. Her passion for animal care started at a young age when she began bringing home injured birds and hand-feeding neighbourhood strays.
Through her work and continued studies, she has developed a vast knowledge of animal care techniques, and strives to create a client-focused stress free environment for both you and your pet.
Jessie shares her home with her husband Ian, her children and her rescued dog Tiki.

Nancy is one of the first smiling faces you’ll see here at City View Animal Hospital, greeting you at the front reception. Her love of animals stems back to her childhood growing up on a farm in Northern Ontario. She is pictured here with her dog, Dakota.
She brings with her over 30 years in customer service and sales for a variety of organizations, with her most recent in the veterinary field since 2013. When asked about working in customer service, Nancy is quick to explain that it has given her the opportunity to meet many great people through the years that she, now, is proud to call her friends. She also notes that she highly respects the staff at City View Animal Hospital and that they make every day a good day. Nancy is excited to be a part of this incredibly professional and personable team, and enjoys seeing firsthand how they truly care about providing the best medical care for your pets, whether young or old, sick or healthy.

elyse lavallee
Veterinary technician
Elyse graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Algonquin college in 2005. She has been working in the Veterinary field for 18 years. Elyse is from a small town an hour outside of Ottawa, and her interest in the field of Veterinary medicine started when she was only seven, with the arrival of her first cat. It was then she decided she should work with animals and eventually decided to follow her dreams and became a Veterinary Technician.
Elyse's favorite part of being in such a loving career is being able to provide the best care possible for each and every patient that comes to our hospital.
Elyse has great interest in dentistry, radiology and surgery.

Laura langton
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Laura graduated from the Algonquin College Veterinary Technician program in 2013 and has been working as an RVT ever since. Laura's passion for animals started when she was very young and helping her grandparents on their family farm.
Laura has a special interest in senior pet wellness and pain management.
When not at work, Laura loves hiking and spending time with her boyfriend and their four rescued fur-babies: Bo, Bella, and Finn.

Leanna gourgon
vETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Leanna grew up in Niagara Falls before moving to Ottawa to pursue her post-secondary education. She graduated from the Algonquin College Veterinary Technician program in 2014 and has been working as an RVT ever since. She joined the City View team in March of 2018.
Her main interest in the veterinary field is surgery. She lives in Osgoode with her husband Max, and her 2 young boys.

jessica ditz-mathewson
Veterinary technician
Jessica became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2013 after graduating from the Veterinary Technologist program at St. Lawrence college in Kingston. Jessica knew from a very young age she wanted to work with animals and her veterinary career began in Ottawa in 2007 as a high school co-op student. After which she went on to work as a kennel attendant and then veterinary receptionist prior to going to college.
Jessica has a special interest in nutrition, especially pet weight loss plans, as well as microscopy/cytology. She is also passionate about volunteering with animal rescue groups around the world. She has had the opportunity to work with elephants rescued from the tourism industry in Thailand as well as with cats and dogs on a small island in Grenada.
When relaxing at home, she loves cuddling up with her 3 kitties (Panther, Wally, and Willow), and caring for her Florida King Snake (Koi) and Bearded Dragon (Ozzy). She enjoys spending time out in nature and working on crafting projects.

Annika vine
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Annika graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Algonquin College in 2020 and has been working in and pursuing education in the veterinary field since 2015. She joined the City View Animal Hospital team in March of 2022.
Annika has a soft spot for spaniels and Siamese cats, and her special interests at work include ophthalmology and client education. She is a Level 3 Fear Free certified professional and takes creating a safe and welcoming experience for each pet very seriously! Annika also enjoys volunteering with Community Veterinary Outreach to help provide veterinary care to those who may otherwise not have access.
Annika has two cats, Bramble and Meadow, a mixed breed dog, Nugget, and two land snails, Orpheus and Eurydice. In her free time, she can be found enjoying a hot cup of tea and playing video games on her PC or Nintendo Switch.

Bethany purdon
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Bethany has moved to the Ottawa area from The Greater City of Sudbury, famous for its smoke stack and the "Big Nickel". Being raised in the north, it was only natural for them to attend and graduate from Northern College's Veterinary Technician program. Being part of the 2018 class, followed by working in veterinary medicine while finishing the steps and becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician.
Bethany comes to the Ottawa area with their two spoiled cats, dog and supportive partner. Bethany loves learning as well as educating others about animals. They are excited after 1 year in Shelter Medicine to be back in a clinic setting, helping with surgeries and caring for patients again.
In their free time, Bethany enjoys nature's beauty, crocheting, cross stitching and listening to music.

Emma Halchuk
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Emma’s childhood dreams consisted of being an actor and a cowgirl. Fast forward through nearly a decade of creating theatre, two years of Algonquin College’s Veterinary Technician program, and one summer working with farm animals, Emma is over the moon to have joined the City View team! Emma is grateful to be surrounded by such supportive, knowledgeable, patient humans, and is learning something new every day.
Emma’s passions outside of work include creating art, eating delicious curries, and entertaining two cats - one orange and one calico.

Carlynna Smalczewski

Carly has been a part of the City View team since January 2021. You may know her as the one that starts your appointments and helps our veterinarians throughout the day.
She is not only a certified veterinary assistant but she is also a certified canine hydrotherapist and has multiple years of experience in the animal rehabilitation setting as well as shelter work.
Carly's main goal wherever she is to be a voice for those who don't have their own.
Carly has a rescued potcake named Millie as well as a rescued cat name Zucchini at home who she loves dearly.
