Surgery - Spay and Neuter

_____________________________________________
Committing to have your female pet spayed and your male pet neutered provides them with many benefits that span the rest of their lives. Spayed females avoid stressful heat cycles and possible life threatening uterus infections while neutered males generally have a reduction in aggressive behaviour which can lead to altercations with other pets or animals.

When to Get Your Pet Spayed or Neutered

The optimal time to spay or neuter your pet is prior to reaching reproductive maturity. We suggest spaying and neutering your pet at 6 months.  As usual, there are certain special cases where altering this schedule could be beneficial and we suggest discussing this with one of our veterinarians during your initial visit.  Timely pet spay and neuter eliminates the chances for unplanned pregnancies and the problems associated with unexpected additions to your family.

Making Their Lives Longer, Healthier and Happier

Male and female pets are both less likely to become victims of certain cancers by being spayed or neutered.  Your furry family member is also less likely to get lost since roaming behaviour is also minimized by spaying or neutering.

Added benefits of Spaying and Neutering:
  • Breast tumors are less likely to develop in females, which are often malignant.
  • Prostate cancer is decreased in males.
  • Males are less likely to mount other animals, which can avoid altercations.
  • Testicular cancer is eliminated in males.
  • Ovarian and uterine cancers are prevented in females.
  • Uterine infections are prevented in females.
